Poverty Simulation & Resource Café 10/30/25
Join us on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 9am to 12pm at Goodwill Industries on University Parkway for an insight on what it is like to live in poverty. We are partnering with Crisis Control Ministries to host a Poverty Simulation.
From 9am to 11am, Crisis Control Ministries will host the Poverty Simulation which provides a guided experience that exposes participants to the realities of poverty, including the challenges of navigating the complex world of government services and other essential service providers. Participants assume the roles of different families facing poverty.
From 11am to 12pm, we will host a Resource Café with a panel discussion on poverty. The panel will include various agency representatives who are knowledgeable about resources related to poverty in the Forsyth County community.
The Poverty Simulation will be free to participants. Registration is required! Here is the link to register at Crisis Control Ministries website. Please register before October 24, 2025.
Check in will begin at 8:30am. Coffee and refreshments will be provided.

About the Stepping Up Initiative
Forsyth County's response to the national Stepping Up and Call to Action effort to reduce the number of adults with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders in jails and decrease recidivism. Stepping Up also assists those who have behavioral health issues and do not have criminal justice involvement.
- The Forsyth County Stepping Up Initiative houses two programs: Stepping Up Process to End Recidivism (SUPER) and the Mental Health Court (MHC).
- The SUPER program focuses on those who are incarcerated in the Forsyth County Detention Center. SUPER provides screening, recovery planning, peer support, and case management to men and women who have mental health or substance use disorders.
- The MHC program is a court supervised treatment program for offenders who have been identified as having a mental illness and have agreed to participate in the program. MHC is a pre-plea court and all charges are dismissed once a participant graduates from the program.
SUPER Holds Its Latest Graduation
The Stepping Up Process to End Recidivism (SUPER) held its latest graduation ceremony on March 23. The yearlong program provides support services to those with mental health and/or substance use issues who may have criminal justice involvement.
STEPPING UP PROGRAM CELEBRATES FIRST MALE GRADUATES
The Stepping Up Process to End Recidivism (SUPER) held a ceremony for its first male graduates on Oct. 1. The yearlong program provides support services to those with mental health and/or substance use issues who may have criminal justice involvement. Stepping Up served only women in its pilot phase and expanded to include men last year. The ceremony celebrated the first two men to graduate from the male program, who started in January 2020 and have been in recovery and out of jail for at least a year. “Now that you are SUPER men, we expect you to climb to great heights and fly over any obstacles that get in your way,” said Stepping Up Supervisor Amber Humble. “You have earned your capes.”
